Beach Wedding Dresses

Since you’ve decided on a Hawaiian wedding theme and now you need to find beach wedding dresses that go with your Hawaiian beach theme. Or you are planning a beach style wedding elsewhere, wherever that may be. It’s easy to bring Hawaii to any beach or even to your own back yard. And it all starts with the correct choice of Hawaiian wedding attire suitable to wear on the beach not only for yourself and your bridesmaids but the complete bridal party.

While a wedding on the beach may sound like a unique concept, it has been happening on various beaches of the world. A lot of brides are opting for exotic beach locations for their weddings instead of a traditional church wedding. In order to pick the right bridal attire for a particular wedding, you will need to consider many different elements. This can depend on the location, season and local practices or customs as well as the type of beach itself can be a important factor when selecting Hawaiian beach wedding dresses.

Hawaii is well-known for being laid-back and casual, so why not apply the same attitudes toward your wedding? It’s not uncommon for couples getting married on the beach to throw tradition to the wind and dress down.

While nothing could be more romantic than a traditional Hawaiian wedding dress known as a “Holoku”. The Hawaiian Holoku, a formal Hawaiian gown with a train, is also a gorgeous choice as a Hawaiian wedding gown for those who would like authentic Hawaiian wedding wear. The Holoku is an elegant, and conservative, formal tea dress, with its high neck, long sleeves, and lace. Maile, the character in Blue Hawaii who married Elvis at the end of the movie, wore a Holoku as her wedding gown as Elvis and Maile serenaded each other with the Hawaiian wedding song as they floated down a river on a canoe toward wedded bliss.

There are wedding gowns, that are specially designed for brides who wish to have a informal wedding especially for the beach. They are unusually free flowing, with simple lines, sometimes very colorful and definitely a far call from conventional. There are designers who specialize in beach wedding dresses with a Hawaiian theme. And even you do not want to get a designer wedding dress you could just get yourself a comfortable beach dress that you are comfortable wearing and get married.

A wedding on the beach does not permit you to wear those long flowing wedding gowns, with a 15ft trailing veil, they are best left for the more traditional church wedding. Hawaiian themed weddings can be more of a casual setting, allowing you set the mood for a fun relaxed day. While out in the sun with a small tent erected, you would want to wear something that matches this setting. After all a marriage ceremony is not sanctified on what beach wedding dress or gown you wear or where you get married. With a wedding on the beach you can be as formal or as casual as you like, they’re really are no golden rules, times are simply changing giving brides the chance to truly personalize her own special day.

It is all about marrying the right person in the setting that suits you most, and what an ideal setting, sand between your toes, the sun shinning upon you both, with the waves of the sea lashing against the shore. And, if you are wearing the right kind of beach wedding dress you could ask the priest to sanctify your marriage out on the shores edge, with gentle waves splashing around your ankles as you exchange rings and say ‘i do’. Doesn’t that sound picture perfect, so romantic…

Beach themed weddings are popular at many romantic resorts in Hawaii, some other popular wedding locations include the Caribbean, Tahiti, Fiji, the Bahamas, Florida, California, Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia and South of France.

Top tips to consider when looking at Hawaiian beach wedding dresses.

The exact location of the beach chosen for the wedding may dictate, to some extent, what to wear to a wedding on the beach; for example, is the beach windy? If so, long, floaty dresses, with long veils or loose hairstyles may prove troublesome and a shorter, close fitting wedding dress may be more practical.

Take the time to find out what is the true color of the sand, as white sand is the best as this will not stain your wedding dress. Some sand can leave a horrible yellow stain on your wedding dress. It is advisable to wear a 3/4 length wedding dress if this is the case.

Most brides will also want to have their wedding photos taken on the beach, so it is strongly advisable to check out what type of sand is found at the location you have selected before you decide on the length of your Hawaiian wedding dress.

In any wedding that is going to be on the beach, sand is a important factor that you can not escape. When selecting a wedding dress to wear on the beach, you need to take into consideration that sand will find its way into every possible spot it can. Avoid selecting a beach wedding dresses that have lots of folds, pleats, or even lots of lace that sand can get trapped in.

Is there shade on the beach where the wedding is taking place? If not, you might want to consider a wide brimmed hat as part of your Hawaiian wedding attire to protect you and your beach bridal party from the sun.

Will the wedding take place on the sand or in a wedding gazebo? Sandals or flip flops may be more appropriate than high heels or closed shoes if walking through sand is likely. You will notice in many Hawaiian wedding photos that the bride is even barefooted adding that extra casual feel to the day.

Let’s not forget the wedding photos. Having you and your husband frolicking in the waves, or standing on the shore edge looking into the sunset, these romantic photos success will depend on what type of dress you are wearing. A bride trying to hold up a hooped wedding dress standing in the surf doesn’t make the best photo shot. But I am sure it can be done, but not the best scenario.

Sandra Beech spends as much time as she can on beaches and loves everything and anything to do with weddings. So it is natural for her to write about planning a beach wedding.

As a rule of thumb, beach wedding dresses are mostly informal, and hence you have a golden opportunity to get rid of the formal dresses, once and for all! However, since it is ‘the day’, you can’t wear something ordinary as well. Confused? Let me help you!

Dresses to Wear to a Beach Wedding for Bride

Since most of the beach weddings are way too informal than church weddings, the rules for informal wedding dresses are not strict. But to make the ‘sand walk’ convenient, you should avoid heavy trails, long veils and satin pumps. Rather opt for the unconventional bridal gowns like the knee length or colorful bridal gowns. You can also wear white stunning shirt with a colorful sarong. You can also select the in-vogue sundresses for beach weddings. Opt for floral prints and bold color shifts for a beach wedding. You also need to consider the wedding color theme while selecting the colors of the bridal gowns. Colors like – chic white, cream, beige, lavender, blue, peach, yellow, purple, plum, light shades of orange, pink, yellow, brown, etc. are picture perfect for beach wedding dresses. You also need to opt for less showy bridal jewelry like a string of pearls and dewdrop earrings.

Dresses to Wear to a Beach Wedding for Groom

This segment of the article is going to bless the guys who hate the black tie affairs and have the pre-wedding blues, just because they need to carry that heavy tuxedo for all eternity (just for the day in fact). Well, since you need to select an informal wedding dress, opt for casual shirts and drawstring pants. Avoid a tuxedo and if you want to have it, make sure you never wear it! You must opt for colors that compliment the colors of the bride’s casual wedding attire. You can also opt for the same aforementioned color hues. Just make sure that you look as trendy and casual as ever. Try Hawaiian flower printed shirts or Cuban guayabera with color contrasting (white) knee length shorts. Make sure your shirt matches the sarong that the bride is wearing. Avoid wearing a tie and also leave the top buttons of the shirt open. If you want to wear a tie, then wear it very casually/loosely.

Dresses to Wear to a Beach Wedding for the Wedding Party

Dubious about which are the dresses to apparel to a beach wedding for the bridesmaid and groomsmen? Well, your beach wedding attire should compliment the bride’s and groom’s dresses and the wedding theme. Bridesmaid dresses for beach wedding include gowns, pleated frocks or frilled skirts along with casual tops. In fact, sarong and white top is the ultimate combination for bridesmaids. If you are searching for tropical wedding dresses, then you can accessorize them further more with a floral garland and headband. As far as the groomsmen attire is concerned, they can wear casual shirts with loose pants. Khakis also look great with white linen shirts. Head rule of the bridesmaid’s and groomsman’s dresses, is that they should not overwhelm the main attractions of the wedding (bride and the groom, of course!)! Also consider the season as well as the weather of the beach at the time of the wedding. Especially, guys who are wearing hats and girls who are wearing skirts with light fabrics.

Dresses to Wear to a Beach Wedding for Guests

If you are a guest to a beach wedding, then make sure you know the guidelines about the beach wedding dresses for guests, that might be mentioned on the invitation card and act accordingly. You can opt for bright shades of red, blue, purples and coral colors; when selecting shirts, ties and women’s dresses to wear to a beach wedding as a guest. Women can also opt for t-length sundresses and patterned short sundresses. Search for flower printed, fabrics, if it is a tropical and casual wedding. Children’s beach wedding attire should be just the same as the adult attire for beach weddings. You can find great deals at various bridal shops, if you are searching for cheap dresses to wear to a wedding for guests. As a general guest’s attire rule, jeans and risque clothes are not allowed, while women guests should avoid wearing whites and off whites. Important Tips On Shooting A Beach Wedding From An Hobbiest Point Of View. Get The Best Beach Wedding Photography When Invited To A Beach Weddingd

There are many things to remember when invited to a wedding on the beautiful beaches of the emerald coast of Destin Fl and the surrounding areas. But the most important is Batteries. You camera Will NOt work with out them. As a professional beach wedding photographer I spend contless hours watching hobbiest take photo’s at beach wedding and most of the time witness them “shooting” the photo all wrong. In the following article I will provide many tips to help capture the best beach wedding photo to maybe give to the new couple as a wedding gift.

First lets talk about gear  ….. camera’s. Here are my do’s:: Do bring the new DLSR you bought especially for the wedding with the 2 lens and the big flash and the oversized sling backpack.  Don’t bring it to the actual ceremony!!!! What then why did I buy the fancy new Nikon!!! Trust me you are going to a wedding on the Emerald coast of Florida there will be 100′s of photo’s to take before the ceremony and after. But remember that “during” the ceremony you have been invited as a guest NOT TO WORK so act like a guest. If you would like to bring a small point and shoot to quickly and discreetly take a photo of the groom and bride and maybe the kiss that is great. Or better yet turn the volume off on your phone and use the camera on it.

During the ceremony pay close attention to the professional photographer. where is he/she standing – or they standing squatting lying on the sand? Are they moving fast to capture a quick smile or slowing “grabbing” every emotion. The reason to watch the photographer is because the photographers of the Sunshine state in Destin, Panama City, Navarre are use to the beach. they work countless hours on the beaches of Destin shooting beach weddings working with event planners and they know the right angel and the correct shot to capture.

after the ceremony go ahead and grab your big fancy new Nikon {we all know you didn’t leave it in the room} and take photo’s tons of them work the crowd get candid shots of the moms and the uncles and the kids running all over the beach. Take a few photo’s of some local beach goers. But do not go within 100 feet of the professional. It is fine to “watch” from a distance” to again gather tips of the trade. But whatever you do do not shadow or shoot the same poses. If and this is a big if!!! there is time after the photo shoot ask politely if  few shots can be made for your studio. If not that’s fine go to the reception and blast away once again grabbing those candid moments.

To summarize – - Do bring your big Fancy Nikon {just not to the beach wedding ceremony} Do Not get in the way of the professional – and remember you are there as a guest let the hired help have a chance to do their jobs………and do not forget to have someone take a photo of you with a sunset on the beautiful beaches of the emerald coast.

Beach Wedding Along Florida’s Emerald Coast

When planning a beach wedding along the beautiful beaches of Florida’s emerald coast on the beaches of Destin,Panama City Beach,Pensacola,Perdido Key,Sandestin,Miramar Beach,Navarre Beach,Seaside,Grayton Beach,Blue Mountain Beach, Seaside, Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach Florida, one detail is sometimes overlooked. Do we wear shoes flip flops etc. or do we go Barefoot in the sand. And the definitive answer is ….. Either or Both or it a personal choice…..can you see where this is going. Another often overlooked garment issue is what do the guests wear. It is a wedding, although a beach wedding, but being on the beach makes it a little more casual so when asked what do i tell my guests to bring for the beach wedding ceremony, what should i tell them to bring?? And the last but most of the time first clothing issue for a bride and groom is ::: What do we wear??? Coat and tie , traditional wedding dress, linen shirts, beach dress, shorts or pants. So what is acceptable? Below you will find three tips for each situation. Flip Flop shoes or barefoot? What to tell guests to wear? What is acceptable for Bride and Groom to wear?

First thing to know about a beach wedding is that function trumps fashion Always!!! If you keep this in mind you will look great and most important be comfortable.

Barefoot of Flip Flops :::  Barefoot by all means, Done!! This is the beach after all and the sand along the emerald coast is amazing and soft. Go have pedicures done the day of the wedding , this means you too guys!! and go barefoot.!!!

Guests Attire :: this gets tricky because you have to consider everyone that may be attending your wedding and uncle Jim may never wear anything but jeans and a cowboy hat!! But the key word here is YOUR …. it is your wedding. It is ok to suggest a clothing theme, say tropical or white with kaki or ladies wear beach dress and guys wear shorts. Just remember when planning your beach wedding to take into consideration the feel or theme you are looking for at your ceremony. One hundred guests in white shirts/blouses and kaki look really stunning on the beach

Bride and Groom Attire ::: As a beach wedding planner I have seen every combination of Bride and Groom attire, and every combination works!!! So here is where you can become very creative or very traditional. This choice on wedding dress is your and yours alone. The choice on groom attire is also yours. Remember the beach is an outside location and can have weather including heat. Also take into consideration that heats best friend is sometimes wind,,, so if you have a fancy hair style that has a veil it may be wise to at least have a backup plan to remove your veil. You do not want your photo’s to be of you wrestling your veil all evening.

In closing it is important to remember that this is your very special day and what ever you decide, barefoot or flip flops, tropical theme beach wedding or traditional it will be beautiful.
